The National Mall- Thursday

For the second week in a row, a Thursday with nothing to do had led Sabine and Lana out of town, though today they'd extended the invitation to a few other people.

You know. To go check out museums, like the nerds they were. And to hide in the air conditioning, because it was gross outside.

So it was off to DC for the day handwavily around class times, with shirts available to wear that read "FANDOM COSTUME SOCIETY" to help the non-humans blend in. Would it work? Who knows!

[NFB for distance, and for those who know who they are, though if you happen to be in DC, feel free to stop in!]

Would Vette be lying if she said she wanted to see what Earth had to offer here in hopes of maybe, maybe proving someone wrong about this planet's space travel capabilities and hopefully finding her way home again? Absolutely!

So, here she was, decked out in one of those costume society shirts (and steadfastly ignoring anybody looking her way and murmuring) and staring with some degree of consternation up at an aircraft that looked like it could barely sustain flight for more than a full minute.

... She wasn't wrong. The Wright Brothers' first flight had been shy of a minute by a single second.

Norman wasn't actually a hundred percent certain how his wanderings had taken him to the gardens, but he had to admit it was kind of nice. Especially once he found his way into the butterfly garden. It was kind of soothing in there, and, given the fact that he could see dead people pretty much on the regular, Norman could definitely appreciate a little bit of soothing life now and again.

After she'd commandeered Prompto to help her out by taking pictures of her Captain America puppet posing all patriotically in front of all the usual landmarks (he had been more than willing, and agreeing to a few....a dozen selfies seemed a small price to pay for Captain America gold), it should surprise no one that Astrid (clad in the new 'club' shirt and ready to explain should anyone ask) then planned to spend the rest of the day wandering around the National Gallery, another museum of scratch off her list, and it was really just a shame that she could just stay here and not have to eventually go back.

After Astrid had kindly made the suggestion that it would be in incredibly poor taste to take a dip into the Reflecting Pool, Sidon found himself drifting over to the National Museum of Natural History, easily entranced by all the strange and wonderful things this planet had to offer.

Even if it was a little strange that he seemed to be getting quite a fair share of the tourists' attentions that might otherwise be reserved for the exhibits.

Camera? Check! Plenty of film and memory cards? Check! Sweet new t-shirt for a fake club that didn't exist? CHECK!

Prompto was ready and rearing to go, and if anyone thought that he was going to be able to stay in one place more very long when there was so much to see and so much to take pictures of, well, then, clearly, you did not know Prompto very well yet!

"It really is," Norman replied, smiling a little at a little yellow butterfly as it fluttered on by. "I was thinking of hitting up the natural history museum, but I could pretty easily spend a good chunk of my day here, you know?"

It didn't hurt that Norman was pretty chill when things weren't exploding in his face or anything, granted.

Astrid smiled faintly, just as unsurprised to see Sabine here, too. "Make it several return trips," she suggested. "I've been to the LACMA and the Getty back home more times than I can count, and I still haven't seen everything there is to take in there yet. This is great, I tracked down Van Goh's self-portrait already, Whistler's Symphony in White, the O'Keeffes. I'm saving the Dutch marine exhibit for last, though, or else I'm going to get sucked into spending my whole time gawking at the waves..."

Lana was also here, curious about the particulars of how far they were.

And yes, wearing a costume society shirt with leggings and boots. If anybody tried staring at her, she was staring right back. They didn't seem to meet her eyes for long.

"The manned probe looks like a stiff wind would destroy it."

After checking around, Lana thought this museum seemed interesting. History and the nature of the planet? Yes, please.

She wouldn't even spend an inordinate amount of time on the gemstones, though she did try sensing them all through the Force to analyze what sort of structures they had.

She nodded to Sidon when she saw him.

"I'm not opposed to finding out if it would it you're not," Vette chirped.

Because Vette was terrible. And just overall frustrated with this entire dumb planet.

"That would do it," Norman admitted, nodding a little. He was kind of getting used to answers like 'slightly more war-torn' since coming to the island, he hardly even blinked at it now. "So now that you're here, you might as well take some time to enjoy it while it's here?"

Nell might need to be dragged bodily from the gardens. This was amazing! There were so many plants, so much life! After managing to talk one of the gardeners into giving her seeds for a few of the plants she just had to try and grow, she found a quiet out of the way place and sat down, placing her hands on the soil to connect with the earth.

It soothed her and made her feel at home and - oh glory! - she could feel Soulwood through it here!

Nell wandered through the museum open-mouthed at all the art. She'd never seen anything like this in her whole (very sheltered) life!

Nell might have stood staring for a long time at the dinosaurs. There was so much she had never seen of even imagined!
