A store on the mainland- Tuesday evening
Sabine was trying very hard not to be a full-on crab today. She didn't like this barely-contained itchy feeling, she didn't like that she hadn't been able to get rid of it, and because she was on StuCo and felt like she should make an appearance at things like prom, she had to actually get ready for it. And she'd determined that stores here didn't really cater to her style but she didn't have the know-how to make something herself, and wah wah wah.
So she'd enlisted Astrid's help in going to a store on the mainland where maybe they could find something for Friday. At the very least it got them off the island for a bit.
And she had to admit, she hated the clothes here a little less today. "Some of these things might not be so bad," she conceded.
[For the roomie!]

Except maybe just feeling more of the fabrics. Of course she'd be drawn to crushed velvet. She was from the '90s. How fortunate for her aesthetic that it was sort of back in style.

Of course she would go with that. But then, she was flipping past anything black without a second glance.

After all, it wasn't that Astrid disliked pink. But Ingrid did. So pink was out.
Her shoulders shifted a little as she considered the halter cut of the dress, wondering if she'd be comfortable with them exposed like that.

And Sabine was definitely going to gravitate towards color in her picks unless she was stopped.

"I'm definitely trying this on," she decided, before her eyes danced over the dresses to try to pick out something to suggest for Sabine in return, but coming up with a faint realization. "I think you've got a better eye for this than I do."

But the wheels were in motion and she started to consider things speculatively. "Actually...how do you feel about tulle?"

It was so, so fluffy. Now that she had it out, Astrid could only imagine Sabine all but drowning in it.

She hadn't even focused on the top part because look at that.

Because it also needed straps, or something. She wasn't going to say she had nothing to hold it up, but...

Unless Sabine was in a rush to return back to Hormone Island, where Astrid had to admit even being in their room together made her feel...antsy.

She didn't really think Astrid would go for it, but her reaction might give an idea of how different to go.

But she had played around with the idea of something unexpected, hadn't she?
"Wow," she said, "that is...that is..." She laughed again, reaching for the skirt of the dress to investigate what she was about to ask. "Just how high does this slit go up, anyway?"
And what were the odds that it just made her long legs look even more awkward and gangly in a complete opposite effect of the way the dress should be working with them.
"Blue might be a good color, though," she said. "That whole 'bringing out my eyes' thing."
She did kind of like it, actually, the more she considered it. She just might feel a little embarrassed about how much she did.

Taking it down a couple notches.

Exposed, maybe.

What with the hormones and things she wasn't thinking about.
no subject
...uh, but not that kind.
Probably.
Maybe?
Astrid shook her head a little, because she did not need to think about that, who would even be interested?, and now her face was turning about the same shade of pink they were trying to avoid.
"I'll try it," she said, and then realized she had quite a few stacked up and Sabine not so much. "But we haven't found hardly anything for you yet. Let's see..."
Astrid was easily just searching for color, bright and vibrant like her roommate, but she had trouble feeling like any of them could really come close to matching Sabine in style. Or maybe just tricky really picturing Sabine all dressed up in something like a lot of these.
"Oh, this is pretty!"

Weirdly enough, as someone who grew up in a warrior culture and dressed in armor all the time, she didn't have a ton of experience with skirts. "We can put it in the try pile."
It was maybe a little adult for her, but maybe it'd be different on.

And, since she was there and came across it, she tilted her head and held up somethng with a different kind of embelleshment and color, just to test it out.

It was heavily featured in her work, after all.

"I wonder if there's be enough time to take something and add your own colorful embellishments," she mused, because it hadn't escaped her that if there was anyone at this school who would try to go and make their own prom dresses, it would be these two...
...even if Astrid was pretty sure her attempts would wind up some sort of watercolor tie-dye mess.

Again, she wore metal.
"...And I haven't gotten a ton done this week."
